DESTRUCTION COMPLETE.
(United Service.) (Received 2.30 p.m.)
SOFIA, April 22.
Bulgaria experienced 56 earthquakes between April 12 and April 20, including 30 on April 19, and several to-day, thus completing destruction of the damaged buildings.
Incessant rain for 48 hours has increased the sufferings of the homeless who are living in rudimentary shelters. The damage at Philippopolis alone is estimated at £4,500,000. Many hospital patients are lying in beds in the open.
The Government is devoting £45,000 to relief, and is buildiqg hutments in the neighbourhood of the devastated houses. It has postponed the collection of taxes and has instituted six months' moratorium in the stricken region. The Pope has subscribed £450 to the relief fund, and other foreign help is coming in.
