FALSE DECLARATION.
BARMAN TWICE MARRIED. SAID HE WAS A BACHELOR. (By Telegraph.- -Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. "That he falsely declared he was a ' achelor," was charged against a mid-rlle-aged Belgian named Leon Constant Francois Jorissens, to-day: Evidence given by the deputy registrar at Hamilton showed that .Tonssens went through a form of marriage with Jean Sterling on December 31. last, Inf a declaration he stated he was a barman, aged 31, and a ia eh el or'.
Detective White read a statement by accused in which lie admitted that he married May Lord in the Catholic Church at Tokomaru Bay on December 27, 1921. Accused, a naturalised Britisher, came from San Francisco in 1918. In a statement to the police he said he had not known whether his first wife was alive. He di 3 not tell Miss Sterling that he had been married before. - He admitted that he knew he was making a false declaration when he stated he Was a bachelor.
Accused was committed for trial on bail of £500. • ,
