IMPROVING TRAVEL
id.ORE COMFORT IN CAKiUAuES YEARLY EXCURSIONS UNLIMITED. More comfort for passengers on the 8.34 p.m. Frankton-Auckland express is assured for the coming winter. At this season last year it was brought under notice that on cold nights travelling on the fast passenger train was not so comfortable as could be desired, owing to lack of steam heating in the carriages. Arrangements have now 'been made to place steam-heated vehicles on the 8.34.
In future those desiring to reserve seats on this train will be able to do so, despite the fact that Frankton is only 8« miles from Auckland, and the regulations provide for seats only to be reserved for distances over 100 miles.
Another restriction is also to be removed. Up till recently a school, factory or friendly society was limited to one excursion per year. The excursionists were carried at very cheap rates, but with a view to encouraging travel the Department has • now decided to lift the one-excursion;a-year restriction, and there will be no limit to the number of excursions a school may make during twelve months.
