f * f CAHNOICBALL GOES LIKE A SHOT. > ST. MAURA RUNS FAST ( EPIGRAM DISAPPOINTING. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. It was quite an off day at Addington this morning. Very few horses were worked, and none was sent over hard tasks. Shadowland has built up a good deal during the last few He went a useful two miles, pacing solidly all the way, but at no stage was asked; to 1 , do his best in the workout. Cannonball and Vesuvius worked two miles, A. Cox being behind the trotter and V. Alborn drove the pacer. Cannonhell led his companion over the first mile and a-helf,-which was not done at top speed. The last half-mile was covered et a fast clip, and the trotter finished on terms with Vesuvius. It was. a capital piece of training work. St. Maura went a mile in pleasing style. The first half was slow, but the last oart of the journey was done at top speed. ' . Young Blake worked several .circuits at a slow speed, and then put in a fast round, trotting in fine style. - After another spell he sprinted along the back twice. The trotter has never looked in better form than at present. Reverie went about a mile and a-quar-ter, but he did not trot at an steadily, breaking more, than once. The halfbrother to Napland has not come along as fast as expected, and he is a very bad breaker, being-quite finable to get into his gait again when he breaks up. The young trotter New Medford. accompanied by a maiden uacer. a mile and a-half. New Medford trotted in good style. Epi«ram has not raced at all well during ]||g last few efforts. He was quite successful when raced over short courses, but when' trained for two-mile events Epigram has done badly. It is just possible that Epigram is too unsound to do himself justice over a long journey. Double Event, who so far has not shown any temper on the track, went a mile and a-half in pleasing style. He has furnished into a much more powerful horse-than he was when last wed. Kola Boy, ▼ho will not ready to race lor . seme time, went aj»ut two , Imt stage was the trotter , asked to do his best. - * r
