MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.
The Manurewa Town Board held Its fortnightly meeting last evening, the chairmun. Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, presiding over a full attendance of members. Great South ltoad Footpath.—The engineer. Mr. W. J. L<opdell, reported that the irewly-fornied footbath past the Presbyterian Church was ready for rolling; he was instructed to obtain the accessary material for surfacing and have the work done. . „ Coxhead's Road. —In reference to Messrs. Winter Bros.' tender of £300 12/9, which the board's previous meeting had accepted subject to the engineer's report, the latter J now stated that he had interviewed the 1 contractors and arranged details satisfactorily. ' . ~ Cemetery.—ln reply to the board s request for assistance in laying out the cemetery reserve, the Auckland City Council wrote Stating that the matter would be placed before the rarks Committee. For numerous reasons given, however, the council granted such requests only under very special circumstances. Mr. W. Mclndoe, a local resident, wrote outlining his previous experience in laying out cemetery reserves, and o£Terlng his services for the proposed Work. It was decided to reply, asking him to make a report and attend the next meeting of the board. Considerable discussion took place regarding the policy to be adopted in reference to the property In the immediate future. Eventually it was decided to leave the matter to the Reserves Committee to lease the major portion of the area for cultivation and grazing, also to communicate with the neighbouring owner, giving notice of intention to fence the property. In view of the necessity for road access, the Manukau County Council Is to be asked what can be done towards providing same. Station Access.—The Railway Department wrote stating that in accordance with the board's request, arrangements had been made for the station gates to be open on Sundays, and similarly the station buildings. A letter is to be sent' to the Department expressing appreciation of the Installation of electric J?ght, but pointing out one or two small alterations which the board considers Would be beneficial. <■ Building By-laws.—Mr.: E. J. Butterworth was appointed to dsiist Mr. «B. Yeoland as building inspector.;: , Overhead Bridge.—Notification was received that the Main Highways Board hnd accepted ?,tho -n-boarq,'*'- offer of <300 towards the. ' cost of alterations to the Gtfeat. South Road overhead bridge. The Highways Board also agreed to meet half the cost of paving; the approaches. It was decided to instruct; the engineer to confer with the Highways -Board engineer and prepare plans; of for presentation at the'next ; 'ra«wtlng. . Anzac Day.—lt- was- decided to make arrangements for a' combined afternoon service at the mohamehtti In lieu of the evening service, as:previously held. Great South Road.—Serfous depreciation of the metalled shoulders wns reported, and the engineer was instructed to furnish a report on alternate proposals to tarseal or gravel same. It was also decided to write to the Highways Board pointing out that the board wns unable to mn'ntain the shoulders, pnd asking if the Highwars Board was prepared to subsidise the work.
