tOWHY TOPS THE SCORE. AUSTRALIANS REQUIRE 129. ONE WICKET DOWN FOR 54. (By Telegraph—-Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. The Australians disposed of the New Zealand batsmen before the luncheon adjournment to-day. The home team's score of 97 for five wickets was carried to 154, before the last wicket fell. The Australians need 129 runs to win, and at the luncheon adjournment they had scored 54.
When the Australians took the field the weather was again ideal. The wicket was dry, and showing signs of wear. The outfield was in fair order. Lowry (14) and James (1) resumed battingj McNamee opened the bowling, and two runs came in his over. Lowry brought 100 up with a crisp boundary shot. James scored a three with a sweet shot through slips. McNamee bowled from the other end and his second ball dismissed James, who snicked it to Richardson in the slips. 110—0 —5. Lowry sent Grimmett twice to the boundary successively, With shots all round the wicket, and brought his score to 30 in quick time. McGirr opened Confidently, reaching 10 by beautifully cutting McNamee to the boundary, hringing 140 up. Blackie and Grimmett were both keeping the batsmen quiet. Lowry brought his score to 49 when he snicked one to Oldfleld, off Grimmett, after fiving a particularly bright display. 48—7—40.
"Tail" Disappears Fast. Grimmett's next over saw McGirr easily stumped by Oldfield. 153 —9 —12. Badcock had a short stay, adding only a couple before he poked one up to Oldfield, off Blackie. 153—§—2. Rend and Dickinson were the last two, and the end came li. Blackie's next over, when Read sent one up to Kippax near the boundary. At the luncheon adjournment the Australians had scored 54 with the loss of one wicket (Ponsford 40).
