AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY.
THE "STAR'S" COMPETITION TO CONTINUE. DEFINITE SUBJECTS EACH MONTH. A CHILD STUDY FOR APRIL. The photographic competition initiated by the ''Auckland Star"' at the beginning of the year has proved of undoubted interest, and camera users, not only from the Auckland province, but in many scattered parts of the Island as far south as Wellington, have forwarded contributions to the tune of over 1000 subjects. The competition has shown that photography as a hobby and a pastime is firmly rooted, and that the opportunity of bringing the results before the public is keenly appreciated. In view of these circumstances it has | been decided to continue the competition indefinitely, but in future the I camera users will be given a definite : subject on which to concentrate their J competitive efforts. The subject will be | announced each month. ; For the month of April the subject j chosen is A CHILD FIGURE STUDY. I The weekly competition has illustrated | that this is a favoured subject, and the j daily habits and whims of the young I people have been caught by the camera |in many interesting and amusing i phases. Competitors will have until i Monday, April 23, in which to exploit jtlie many possibilities of this subject. ! Prints can be forwarded to the Illustrations Editor, endorsed Photographic Competition, any time between Monday next and April *23. The April competition will close definitely on the latter date, and the awards will be published the following Saturday. At the same time the subject for the month of May will be announced. As in the past, every care will be taken to return the prints to the competitors when a stamp is enclosed, but no responsibility will be taken. The prizes are:— First prize, £1 1/. Second prize, 10/6. Third prize, 5/. i The right is reserved to publish, as far as space will permit, any other pictures of merit which do not win prizes, and payment will be allowed in each case.
