■ . ■%. Over two hunderd children and r*rHi attended the combined picnie of the Okaihau, East, Public Works, Muiogai and Waihou schools, held at the Ean Kawa racecourse cm Friday last. The Minister of Railways, in response to representations made through Colonel Allen Bell, M.P., has decided to instalTa telephone to connect with the local railway station. Rapid progress It being made in the building of the new Y.M.C.A. lull, which is to be erected in place of the one burned down recently. The completed structure will contain reading, refreshment, billiard and social rooms, and a secretary's office. A very successful plain and fancy dress ball eventuated at the public hall on Friday evening. There was a very large attendance, representatives being present from tricts. Miss M.
