DROWNING ACCIDENT.

DISAPPEARANCE OF BATHER. BODT FOUND NEXT DAY. FATALITY AT POINT CHEVALIER

A drowning accident occurred at Point Chevalier lteach on Saturdav afternoon, resulting in the death of a married man, Arthur Ernest Clark, a carpenter, aged SO, who resided at No. 34, Milton Rood, Mount Eden. Mr. Clark was spending the afternoon at the beach with Ilia wife and two children, and while In bathing disappeared and was not sevi again until his body was found yesterday morning lying on the bottom of the beach in about 3ft of water at low tide.

About three o'clock on Saturday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Clark decided to go for a bathe, and they entered the water, leaving the children on the beach. When he did not return after a considerable time Mrs. Clark became anxious and inquired if her husband was among the swimmers on the pontoon. As he was not on the pontoon fears were aroused and a search of the beach was commenced. At half-past five dragging operations were commenced under the direction of the police. A rope was taken out by two dinghies and dragged under the floating stage but without result.
