The,: eightieth annual boat race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities, from Putney to Mortlake, was 'yesterday won by Cambridge by ten lengths.

Oxford won the toss and took the Middlesex side. Cambridge got off the more smartly, and was a canvas ahead in less than a minute.

The Oxford boat was already rolling, but quickly recovered and almost drew level with Cambridge just ahead of the mile post. The Cambridge crew rowed wiA beautiful rhythm and length, whereas the Oxford crew were sloppy and ragged. Cambridge shot beneath Hammersmith Bridge a length ahead, and after that did what they liked.

It was virtually an exhibition row. The Australian Morphett was one of the steadiest and most effective rowers in the hopeless chase.
