ELECTRICAL EXTENSIONS. COUNTRY SERVICES. WAITEMATA BOARD MEETING.

If transformers ordered by the Waitemata Electric Power Board arrive as expected about the middle of the month, current should be available at Albany bv the end of April. A statement to this effect was made at to-day's meeting of the board bv the resident engineer (Mr. F. J. H. Wilson), in reporting upon the development of certain works in the country sections of the board's area. The meeting was presided over by Mr. J. W. Havden.

A shipment of poles is also due early this month, and from this consignment it will be possible for the hoard to make a start with the erection of the pole line for this extension. A short extension along Exmouth and adjacent roads, at Northcote, is to he put in hand, while the erection of a pole line from Brigham's Creek to Waitakerc will he completed this week. Wiring on this section will be commenced immediately after Easter. Sufficient poles are available to link up with the branch line from Kumeu along the main road, and this work will lie proceeded with. About half a mile of pole line has already been erected alonpr the West Coast road towards Oratia. and further poles will be Ip id out from the shipment that is due. When guarantees have been adjusted properly the line will be completed and a further extension to Nihotupu put in hand. Sale of Electric Stoves. An indication of the keen competition that exists in the sale of electric stove® was given by Mr. Trevitliick, who stated that out of 20 stoves sold during the month the board accounted for but nine. He said that the board would have to expect keener competition in this matter as time progressed.

The Devonport Borough Council wrote agreeing to pay £12 10/ towards the removal of a pole that obstructed the entrance to the new ferry wharf at Devonport. this being the "estimate of half the cost of the work.

The Devonport and Stanley Bay School Committees wrote request ins: the hoard to make reductions in the minimum charge of 5/ a mouth in their cases, and suggesting that a charge of 10/ a year would he ample.

The chairman said that a special arrangement existed in regard to the supply of current for churches, hut that did not apply in th° case of schools that were not equipped. In the case of Devonport the only light used at the entrance of the school. He had suggested to the committee that they would <ret exemption if they installed electricity throughout the school, but it appeared that this was not within the committee's jurisdiction. Tt was agreed to charcre the committees 10/ a year for their current in future.
