STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

(By WHALEBONE.).

It 13 unlikely that White Fang will be brought to Ellerslie for the autumn meeting. C. Moree arrived last evening from Gisborne with Garzon and. the three-year-old King Willonyx.

The distance of tlie'Mclnnes Memorial Handicap, one mile and threa furlong-, was too much for Macroom for she finished well back.

Joy King and Star Stranger arrived at Kllerslie yesterday, and were both given strong work on the sand this morning. These horses look exceptionally well. J. H. Jefferd is expected to arrive to-morrow morning.

Wenday finished second in the Northlands Hurdles at Whangarei on Saturday, but thin was due to her pace and not her jumping ability. She made some very faulty jumps, but was too fast on the flat for most of the others. She will do better with experience.

Melissa put up a good performance at Wliangarci on Saturday when she won the Portland Hack Handicap with 9.13. She was always one of the leaders, and taking charge in the straight scored nicely from Desert Knight. She is engaged at the Ellerslie meeting on Monday.

Desert Knight, who is trained by E. Pope at Takanini. ran two good races at Whangarei on Saturday, being narrowly beaten on each occasion. He is by Mountain Knight from Merry Gain, and his'dam a good sort in her day. Desert Knight should do better before long.

L. Wilson has arrived from Hawke's Bay with the Great Northern Champagne Stakes candidate Raasay. This youngster has improved since he was here at Christmas time, and after his sood performance in running second to Reremoana in the North Island Challenge Stakes at Trentham last mcnth he will be one of the fancied division for the Auckland classic. He also brought with him Gesto, a two-year-old brother to Torquil.

T. n. Gillett arrived on Saturday with Satrap and Money Order. They were both out exercising yesterday, and were sriven useful pace work this morning. Satrap lias grown and thickened out since he was last here at Christmas time, and looks as though the hard racing he had at Trentham has done him no harm. Money Order is looking well, but it has not yet been decided whether he will take his placj in the Easter Handicap field.

Solanio did best of those behind British King In the Trial Stakes at Whangarei on Saturday, and he appears to be coming into form.

Judge's Box ran well in the Waipu Handicap. She was in front shortly after the straight was entered, but then Aurumavis headed her. Judge's Box, however, made another great effort and was only beaten by a head at the finich.

Lord Abbey, Papatu, Kvngzone and Melissa have arrived at Ellerslie after comj>eting at the YVhangarei meeting. Hipo and Oration arrived from New Plymouth yesterday morni-g. The latter is to be ridden by G. Goldsboro in the Easter r T undicap. *

J. Fryer lias arrived at headquarters with the Easter Handicap candidate Bright Glow. L. G. Morris has been engaged to ride her in that event. He was on Bright Glow when she won the Suburban Handicap on the second day of the Welington autumn meeting.

Ned Kelly led from end to end in the Stewards' Handicap at Whangarei. on Saturday. He ran the six furlong* in 1.13 3-5, which is one of the best gallops seen on this course. Ned Kelly Was a good hack, and his recent efforts over hurdles have not impaired his speed.

G. Paul returned to Te Awamntu after the Whangarei meeting to bring Aussie and Awarere, who are due at Ellersiie to-day. He stated on Saturday that Aussie would be a competitor in Viie Huia Handicap on the second day. He was not quite leady to run out a strenuous mile race like the Easter Handicap, and that was why he was not paid up for.

Kerry Dance was unlucky at Whangarei on Saturday, for when the taj>es went up he lost several lengths and was never afterwards in the picture. Mr. L. B. Harris is not having too much luck with this maiden, for at the Franklin meeting Sandbag and he collided in their preliminary, ar.d Kerry Dance got considerably cut about. However. Kerry Dance has shown he possesses, galloping ability.

British King, who won the Trial Stakes in easy fashion at the Whangarei meeting, is a most promising sort. He had no difficulty in accounting for the event by half a dozen lengths. This was his first victory, and the son of King Sol should soon add further to his winning record. When on his last visit to Sydney, Mr. Ewen Alison was commissioned, by Mr. W. H. Evans, of Houhora, to purchase a yearling for him, and among those offered-was a colt by King Sol from Lys Rouge. This is British King. Mr. Alison visited England a few years ago and there saw King Sol, and made up his mind if ever he saw one of' his progeny for sale he would buy him, and British King was the first that came under his notice. It looks as though Mr. Alison's judgment is to be well vindicated, for British King, in addition to being a good galloper, is a nice-looking colt. He is bred to English time.
