"ALWAYS IN THE WARS."
UNFORTUNATE LABOURER. SERIES OF ACCIDENTS. (By Telegraph.—Owd Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. An unenviable record of injuries received in accidents is held by Thos. Pitt, a labourer, who was charged to-day with being in arrears to the extent of £50 on a maintenance order for the support of his wife. During the last three years, he said, his injuries on various jobs comprised two broken fingers, fractured ribs, a broken wrist, a broken leg, injuries to his node (as the result of which he was seven weeks in hospital), and severe injuries received on a demolition job in the city recently. He admitted he had paid nothing on the order for the past year, but said he hoped shortly to get work again and resume payments. The maintenance officer said arrears had totalled £212, but had been reduced to £50. The magistrate adjourned the case for six weeks to give defendant the opportunity of recovering from his most recent mishap, and ordered him to pay 30/ a week into Court in the meanwhile.
