PEOPLING AUSTRALIA.
MIGRATION POLICY DEFENDED. SYDNEY, March 30.
Speaking at the conference of the Nationalist party, Sir Neville Howse, on behalf of the Federal Government, characterised the remarks oil the Government's migration policy made yesterday by Mr. W. M. Hughes as absolutely and deliberately untrue. Sir Neville' said he considered that the present position was the most serious the alist party had ever been called upon to face. He. then moved a motion of confidence in the Government, and affirming the satisfaction of the conference at the manner in which the Government had safeguarded the interests of the Commonwealth by its administration of the migration laws. The motion was carried after a lengthy debate.
