WINNERS OF FORTNIGHTLY SHORT STORY COMPETITION. This week's budget wu quite • bif one. There ere many clever yoang people in Auckland who can write quite a good story when they choose to try. Many were written with a great deal of feeling and nicely put together, especially the effort of Olga Hill, 47, Bond Street, Grey Lynn, age 14, to whom we have awarded first prise for her tale "The Rescue." Glory Quick, Fairfax Avenue, Penrose, age 16, and Winifred Stone, 156, Jerrois Read, Herne Bay, age 14, are highly commended. Noreen Oman, 67, Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn, age 12, Ronald Satdiffe, 0.5.8., 26, O'Neill Street, Ponsonhy, and Jean Small 36 Station Terrace Remuera ago 11, all deserve praise. One story was sent without a name or address, and another with a page missing. Be careful, the crocodile has an exceptionally large mouth, and a still larger appetite.
