AUTUMN SONG.

The gipsy wind that blew all day The golden road along. The dusty, leafy, sun-bright way, Still sang a summer song. Still swayed the yellow roadside weeds. Shook down the ripening pear. And launched white drifts of thistle seeds To sail on the blue air. But with the paling western light Comes a shiver and a sigh : And one by one in the swift night Cold stars gleam in the sky. There's no more colour of green and gray, Amber of leaves, and gold ; The gipsy wind that wooed all day Is a houseless.thiiig and cold. The gipsy wind that tossed the booeh, And raced cloudy fleet, A shivering tattered vagrant now, (joes by with naked feet. The hedge is black, and chill the dew. And the rustling fallen leaf. And the star fields the air blows through Have one lone voice of grief. —ALICE A. KETNiJvY. Faeroa.
