DISTANCE SWIMMING BOOM.
POINT CHEVALIER TO MILFORD OTHER ATTEMPTS LIKELY. It is possible that several members of the Poiteonby Swimm ; ng Club, including S. Brooking and J. D. Foster, will undertake another harbour swim to-morrow. No definite arrangements have yet been made, but if the swimmers start it is likely that they will enter the water from the Shelly Beach baths and go up harbour.
If Foster competes to-morrow it should be a useful preliminary to an ambitious swim that he proposes to undertake on Sunday, April 8, namely from Point Chevalier to Milford Beach. Foster swam from Point Chevalier to Devonport during February and set the present craze for long-distance swimming. As R. H. Stevenson, who swam from Pine Island to the ferry steps recently, has also expressed his intention of makiqg the Point Chevalier-Milford attempt,.lt is possible that the swim will be made another long-distance race, or rather, endurance test.
