Wanganui Trotting Club.

Annual Meeting Ends. — Welcome Pearl Best Improver. - x QUEEir ELIZABETH TAKES SUBURBAN. BOROUGH HANDICAP TO NELSON'S REQUEST. JI (By Telegraph.—Special to "Sta")

. . WANGANUI, thifjday. The Wanganui Trotting CI üb'aj annual meeting, which opened on is concluding in fine weather, beforeji large attendance. The track iajin order. '1 Favpunte Beaten.^^ Although Wefcome;: P«fel rMijk good race into fourtJi' day, backers did not give him the support he was entitled to to-day, betting closed on the Improvers*" Handicap Don Wildman, the Wild, was favourite. The public's lost a lot of ground at the start and never got into the picture. Mwriel Thorpe went out quickest, and led for ionost of the jonrney, with Welcome Peadfj Musical and Huia Maid handy, Ballin heading the others, but some lengths back. There was really- no change in the running tiU 100 yards from home, when the leader, Muriel Thorpe, broke up. Welcome Pearl was in front then, and looked an easy winer, but Ballin came along with a good effort. The Aucklander could not get up, and another second was added to the long string put tip by Robertson's horses. Welcome Pearl won by a couple of lengths, with Muriel Thorpe four lengths away. Indicator was fourth, with Lady Jewel and Musical next.

A Poor Contest. Except that the result favoured backers, the Borough Trot was far from good, and the exhibition of trotting by the whole of the six starters was poor. Nelson's Request was a very warm favourite, and he eventually won easily, but little can be said for the others. The favourite got to the front at the end of. a mile and a-half, and with the others doing everything but trot, Nelson's Request won, pulled up to a walk, by four lengths from Lady Kna, who beat Oarberley rather luckily by half a length. The. others were well down the course. The form was too bad to be true, and Nelson's Request will not get it so easy again.

A Fine Finish. In a field of seven backers made Queen Elizabeth an odds-on favourite in the Suburban Handicap, andshe did her part right, although- she did-not have much to spare at the tSndT; She carried £388, Fliton, the second fancy, having £221 on. Hilltop failed to leave the mark, and took no part in the race. Lady Zoe led out from Great Ballin and Queen Elizabeth, and so they ran till half a mile from home, when the favourite stepped up to Lady Zoe, and they ran together to the home turn, with Nellie tttrsons now handy and Great them, Fliton having tired fcndkut his position of fourth place* There little between Queen Elizabeth, Lady; Zoe Nellie Parsons at the turn, and they ifin&'riee tb the post, A. thpfavfcurite a winner by a length Zoe with Nellie Parsons half a lemrthawav' and Great Ballin—who spoSed gori chance by tangling a few from the post—close up fourth. ; wa> next, but a long way back.
