KNOCKED DOWN BY BUS.
ELDERLY LADY FATALLY
INJURED.
DIES ON WAY TO HOSPITAL.
ACCIDENT AT NEWMARKET.
As w result of being knocked down by a motor bus in Broadway, Newmarket, near the Remuera Road corner, at about seven o'clock on Saturday evening, Mrs. Kate Hudson Williamson, aged 75, died from the injuries she had received while she was being taken to the Auckland Hospital.
The deceased, a resident of 67, Orakei Road, Remuera, was attempting to cross the street when the accident happened. The motor bus that struck her was owned by Mr. L. J. Keys and driven by Mr. Farley John Hunt, who was making a run from St. Helier's into the city. The driver had just turned from Remuera Iload into Broadway when the accident occurred, while the deceased had crossed the tram rails and was approaching the footpath. She was struck by the front left side of the bus and the left front wheel passed over her, inflicting severe injuries to the head.
Mrs. Hudson Williamson was one of the old pioneers, having come to New Zealand with her parents in 1859. She was well-known in both Wanganui and Auckland, and interested herself in Victoria League work. During the war years she was a keen supporter of the League, and collected large sums of money for patriotic and charitable purposes. Mr. Hudson Williamson, who for some years was Crown Prosecutor in Auckland, died in 1916.
He was a son of the late Mr. John Williamson, who was for a long time Superintendent of the Auckland Province. The funeral of Mrs. Williamson will leave the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Stanley Jones, Orakei Road, to-morrow morning for Purewa Cemetery.
