EGG-LAYING.

AUCKLAND POULTRYKEEPERS. FINAL WEEK OF CONTEST. N.Z. RHODE ISLAND RED RECORD. The 50th and final week of the Auckland Poultry keepers' Association's egglaying contest was concluded last Sunday. A noticcable feature is the very close finishes registered in ail departments, there being few eggs-between winner and runners-up. Following are the winners and runnersup.— Single Bird Contest.—Black Orpingtons: Mrs. J. A. B. Hellaby, 264; A. H. Clark. 255. White Leghoras: Mrs. J. A. B. Hellaby, 290; J. W. Perry, 294. Ducks.—Khaki Campbells: R. B. Cruickshank, 340; J. N. McLean, 262. Teams Contest:—Light breeds section. —White Leghorns: T. H. Thompson, 1072; A. R. Browne, 1068. Heavy breeds section.—Black Orpingtons: H. Astbury, 995; C. Dunstan, 954. Ducks.—Light breed sectibn: White Indian Runners: A. Wood, 1076. Fawn and White Indian Runners: D. Riley, 1071. Heavy breeds section.—Khaki Campbells: R. B. Cruickshank, 1068; R. B. Cruickshank, 1029. A noteworthy performance was that of Mr. J. H. Kissling'g Rhode Island Reds, which laid a total of 946 eggs, a NewZealand record for the breed. The foregoing l.irds and teams qualified for weight of egg, namely, 2oz. Two White Leghorns and one Black Orpington passed the 300 egg mark, these being A. R. Browne's 303, J. W. Perry's 302, and H. Aetbury's 304. Seven ducks laid 300 or over, namely, D. Riley's 343, Thos. Dowthwaite's 306, both Fawn and White Indian Runners; A. Wood's 304 and 309, both White Indian Runners; R. Cruickshank's 340 and 300, and Mrs. I.
