HOME FROM CHINA.

AFTER 13 MONTHS' SEE VICE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1 p.m.) RUGBY, March 21. The 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards, after 13 months' service in the Shanghai Defence Force, landed at Southampton this morning.

NEW MOTOR SERVICES.

FOR NORTH SHORE RESIDENTS

OMNIBUSES TO STANLEY BAY.

At a meeting of No. 2 Licensing Authority held at Devonport last evening permission was granted to G. W. Sutcliffe (Mr. Alderton), to extend his motor services for traffic between Birkenhead wharf and Pupuke Road.

An application by J. H. Lynch and W. B. Watson to establish an omnibus service from Birkenhead wharf to Highway Corner and Pupuke Road was opposed by the Blue Star Motor Service, Ltd., for whom Mr. Gould submitted that there was nothing to indicate that the service would extend to outlying districts. The dhairman (Mr. J. Hislop): You mean your service runs to outlying areas and the proposed service would pick up all the "plums." The application was granted. Mr. Thomas, for the applicants, said everything was in order to commence a service. The North Shore Transport Company (Mr. Alderton) and A. B. Bearsley (Mr. Fraer) applied for authority to establish omnibus services between Devonport wharf and Stanley Bay-Second Avenue. A. J. Young and R. H. Hustler applied to establish a service with a sevenseater motor car and an eight-eea&er car, between Devonport and Glen Road, Stanley Bay. The authority decided, by six votes to three, to grant Mr. Bearsley's application only. Those in favour pointed out that Mr. Bearsley was a pioneer and was entitled to greater consideration. It was stated his services would provide 11 trips a day to Stanley Point and 28 trips to Glen Road.

The North Shore Transport Company was given permission to provide 10 additional trips on the Devonport-Mil-ford service.

The application of the Blue Star Motor Service, L/td., to vary the scale of fares between Birkenhead wharf and Highbury Corner was granted.
