SHIPS SCARED.
HIGH COSTS IN AUSTRALIA. (Received 10 a.m.) VANCOUVER, March 21. The Cornish steamer, Tremeadow, under Captain Tregoning, arrived here on Wednesday in baliast from Australia to load wheat for Britain. The captain reported that wheat was available in Australia for the load Home, but loading expenses at Australian ports were so heavy it was cheaper to send a vessel 0000 miles to Vancouver to load at practically equal rates. The Australian income tax, freights and duty on goods consumed in port are blamed.
