WAIKATO DIOCESE.
MOVE BY PARISHIONERS. PETITION TO ARCHBISHOP. i Telegraph.--Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON", this day. A petition is being circulated in Hamilton for presentation to Archbishop Averill asking him to use his influence to remedy matters in the diocese of Waikato which are causing uneasiness to parishioners. When asked for his opinion on the decision of the meetings of parishioners at Claudelands not to form a new parochial district, Bishop Cherrington (not Archbishop Averill. as reported yesterday) expressed disappointment. The decision, he felt, had been passed by irresponsible people, some of whom were not connected with the congregation. Claudelands parishioners had missed an opportunity of securing the services of a very efficient clergyman in the Rev. Mr. Wareing, who would have been appointed vicar of the now parish.
His Lordship added that he had desired to see Claudelands a separate parish for the past twelve months and the Primate was verv keen on it.
