SCHOOL GALA AT RUSSELL.
For,,the first time- In history .a swimming contest for school' ■ children ! bordering the Bajr of Islands was held at Russell on Saturday afternoon, when the Rawhltl and Russell schools were represented. The numerous heat* and races were got off without a hitch and the crowd who lined the wharf were highly delighted with the exciting contests and the good form' shown by the chiMren,. Next year, earlier In the ■eaeort a much bigger programme will be put on. In winning the schools' cham-< ptonehfp. Adele Neumann, of Rnssell, showed excelleiit style and speed, winning the breaststroke, backhand, open style and being■third In the diving.! .Other promising «W6#hM>eaters< of the future were the wee tots Mavis and Joan Strawbridge and Arthur Moran. Mr. Stallard, of Russell, the promoter, is. to be congratulated on the success ** the Carnival. ' Following are the ' results:— Schools' Championship (breaststroke. 60 2-8 yards, backstroke, 33 1-3 yards, free style, 100 yards, diving); points, 3, 2 and, I.—Adele Neumann (Russell), 10 points, 1; i. .Simpson (Kawakawa) and Arthur Moran (Rnssell) tied for second with 7 points each; 8.
