A DARING BURGLARY.
ONEHUNGA SHOP ROBBED.
LARGE PART OF TAILOR'S STOCK REMOVED. A GOOD SELECTION MADE. Another daring burglary was committed last night at Onehunga at a shop in Queen Street, right opposite ths hairdresser's shop that was robbed on February 5. Tbfe premises robbed last night belong to Mr. Isaac Lomas, tailor and mercer, a portion of the premises being let to Mr. Rawlinson, jeweller and watchmaker.
When Mr. Lomas, who lives in Forbes Street, Onehunga, went to open his place of business this morning at 8 o'clock he found the back door wide v . open and also the door leading out of the front shop into the workroom. He saw at once, that burglars had entered, and his worst fears were confirmed when he found that a large portion r of his stock had been removed.. This included the best of everything in the shop—overcoats, suits, gentlemen'? shirts and ties. Anything .of a second grade quality was„ left alone.
Much sympathy is felt for Mr. Lomas; whose wife died only a fortnight ago after a long illness. The front portion, of the building is occupied by Mr. Rawlinson, jeweller and watchmaker. The door leading out of his shop into 'the, other part of the shop was also "'wide, open. He lost about a dozen watches, also several gold rings, and bracelets, etc. attempt had been made to open the safe, which also contained articles of great value as well as cash. Neither Mr. Lomas por Mr. Rawlinson. .can give an accurate estimate of tlieir losses at present, but both know that they are heavy. The matter was immediately reported to the policc. There is a lane' at the rear of Mr. Lomas' shop called Waiapu Lane, and it would he. easy lor anyone to go that way with" a. motor vehicle as it 4s vety quiet there at night. '
