BIG AQUATIC CARNIVAL DAY OUT FOR THE MAORIS. GOVERNOR-GENERAL IMPRESSED. (By Telegraph.—Speda] to "Star.'*> NGARUAWAHIA, this day. ' The weather is gloriously fine for the annual Ngaruawahia regatta and Maori . carnival. There is a record attendance of 1 visitors, all the excursion trains having ' arrived with crowds, while all sorts of b conveyances have increased the attend- ' ance of visitors from miles around. The great gala comprises a full programme of Maori events, rowing races r and Highland events. Tor which record entries have been received. From early morning positions were rushed along the river banks, and long before the""first event was started the great cf presented a most picturesque sight. ° The Auckland Rowing Association 1 was represented by Messrs. A. M. Wilson. E. Buckler and C. Hunt, while the 2 Highland events were controlled bv the 3 Soi'th Auckland Centre of the Pipin<* > and Dancing Association. The Xgarua" ) wahia Municipal Band rendered a splen- ) did programme. The Governor-General and his partv were accorded a great reception, the Maoris giving a dance of welcome. The y } ice-regal party evinced keen interest 7 in the proceedings.
