FACTORY TAILORESSES.
CONSIDERATION OF DISPUTE.
Incteased wages and a general improvement of conditions are sought by the Auckland Tailoresses and Other Female Clothing Trade Employees' Industrial Union (factory tailoresses' section), whose dispute is being considered before Conciliation Commissioner P. Halley today.
The assessors for the employers, who are supported by the Employers' representative, Mr. S. E. Wright, are Messrs. J. Hunter, S. Robinson ap> A. S. McArthur, while those for Ifie employees are Mrs. E. Murphy and Misses Agnes Smith and A. E. Cassev.
No amicable arrangement had been arrived at by the parties after several hours in conference this morning, and the dispute was adjourned at mid-day till this afternoon.
The minimum wages sought by the employees are as follows: For male machinists, £5 15/ a week: first-class chart cutters, £7; second-class chart cutters, £6; stock cutter and trimmer, £5 15/; cutters operating band knife machines and examiners in charge of the finishing room, £5 151/. In cases where two or more workers are employed the employees demand that the cutter or presser be paid not less than 10/ above the award rate.
