SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A social gathering of the vestrymen and their wives took place on Monday evening at St. George's, Epsom, when the presentation of a handsome leather hand-bag, with gold clasp, was made on their behalf by Airs. Preston Chambers to the vicar's wife. Mrs. J. L. Litt leaves on Sunday evening for Wellington to travel by s.s. Tahiti for Sydney, en route for England, where she purposes spending a short holiday in the Old Country and hopes to return to Auckland about November next.

Mrs. Geddes and Mrs. Spragge, English | visitors, who have been the guests of Major and Mrs. Kay, Henrc Bay, who motored with them to Rotorua, Taupo and Waitomo Caves, left for the South on Saturday. Prior to their departure Mrs. .uay gave a morning tea at the Lyceum Club in their honour, at which the guests were Mrs. Geddes (Fngland), Mrs. Spragge (Scotland), Mrs. Hardie Neil, ..Irs. (Dr.) Griffin, Mrs. A. Mitchelson, Mrs. Dervan, Mrs. G. Mains, Misses J. C. and F. Murray.

Mrs. Overton and Mrs. Tancred were the hostesses for a smart surprise handkerchief party, the guests of honour being Miss Myrtle Blythe and Mr. Andrew Christie, whose marriage takes place this afternoon. The guests arrived at Mrs. Tancred's house in Remuera, each guest bringing dainty "kerchiefs for the bride elect and her fiance. Among those invited were Mrs. Blythe, F - M - Bainger, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Mitchell, Misses Sybil Fitzherbert, Blythe, Holmes, Barton,, Webster, Edna, Beryl and Doris Padderson, Wendy Tancred, Mary Mitchell, Sally Tancred, Christie, Mary Cornford, Helen Overton, Barbara Wilson; Messrs. Bruce Lockhart, Wilson, Taylor, Webster, Onniston, George Mitchell, Peter and Sam Overton, Mcßay, Tancred, Webster. JL He competitions were won by Miss D. Padderson and Mr. Christie, who tied with Mr. Blythe and Miss B. Padderson. inngrng and jazzing brought a most delightful evening to a close. • • • •

Miss Blythe gave a farewell tea yesterday morning at the Tudor Rooms, prior to her marriage. Pretty, but simple flowers adorned the tea table. Among the guests were Mrs. J. Russell, Misses Wilson, Tancred, Webster, Holmes, Aide Christie, Overton, Padderson, and Cornford.
