CANTERBURY MARKETS.
THE DEMAND FOR OATS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Inquiries that have been made during the last few days suggest that a little of the speculation that has been going on in oats has been with the prospect of export further abroad than Australia. A Cartons have been sold at 3/7 and 3/8, f.0.b., s.i., and B's at 3/3 to 3/3% for any old oats that are about. New season's Cartons have been sold at 3/1 to 3/2 on trucks, and Algerians at 3/. A few parcels of wheat have been sold at 5/7 on trucks, but these for the most part concern distant railages. There is a fair amount offering by farmers, but most of them decline to sell below 5/8 or 5/9. Quite a pronounced demand has developed since the New Year for bran and pollard. Before then millers were faced with the prospect of having to reduce prices to quit) stocks. However, due, no doubt, to the unlikelihood of Australian supplies coming over, the demand has set in from all parts of the North Island. There is no change in millers' prices. The onion market has advanced during the past week and to-day £5 10/ to £5 15/ on trucks is readily available for April.lune and £6 for March deliveries. The local trade is acquiring onions in small quantities at more than the latter figure. The appearance of rain yesterday tended to slow the market for potatoes, but as the rain has gone off "in smoke" the previous firmness has been re-established. March delivery is quoted at £4 5/ on trucks, £3 15/ for April and £3 10/ for later months. _ There is no dicing© in "top market tor peas, seeds and clovers.
