WHEN "SKID" IS ENCOUNTERED. As a rule skidding is not dangerous if the car is travelling at a low rate of speed, and traffic on the street is not heavy. It is easy to stop a slow-run-ning ear, and, if the brakes do not stop it, the impact usually does little harm. Learn to control the car when it is i-ki.liliiig. Shift into second gear. If thero is not time to shift, or if, becoming confused, it i s no fault of the car, steer in the direction of the skid, so as to straighten out the car, if possible. As a rnlo tho average motorist forgets everything and presses as hard a s ° he ran on the brake and clutch pedals, l-se the brakes alone, and look ahead with a view of preventing the car's striking any object.
