POETIC PARSON.
DEATH OF D. M. WRIGHT. (Received 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. The death is announced of Mr. David MeKee Wright, poet an 4 journalist, formerly of Nelson, at the age of 61.
David McKee Wright was born _in County Down. Ireland, and came to New Zealand in 1887. He was educated at a private school in London, and at Otago University, ultimately entering the Congregational ministry in 1898 as pastor at Uamaru. He went to Nelson in 1901, where he became editor of the '"Xelson Times." He won the first Stewart prize poein at Dunedin in 1897. He is the author of
"Station Ballads" (190.3 i. and '"Whisps of Tussock'' (10001, besides many other poemii, and specimens of his work find a place in "The Standard New Zealand •Anthology.'' His New Zealand verse of the open spaces and station life is of a style similar to the work of Banjo Paterson in Australia. Tn the Commonwealth Mr. Wright edited the l\ed page of the "Sydney Bulletin"' for some time, in which he was a prolific contributor of verse. T_ ndoubtedly an accomplished poet, he was very successful in Australia.
