AUSTRALIA'S SIDE.
TIMBER v. BUTTER DUTY.
VANCOUVER, February 5,
''The Canadian who is visiting Australia finds a difficulty in convincing the Australians that Canada has not treated tne trade treaty as a scrap of paper/' said Mr. J. H. McDonald, a manufacturer, who has just returned from Australia, when speaking before the Board cf Trade.
Mr. McDonald said the loss in preference in the lumber trade was caused by the imposition of the dumping duty on butter. Criticism of the Canadian policy was well founded. If Canada tisded with Australia on the same basis per head as did New Zealand, Canada would sell goods worth £17,000,000.
