CHAMPION JAVELIN THROWER.

LAV BEATS OWN RECORD.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday

The Australian and New Zealand javelin throwing record of 20oft lljin, established by himself, was beaten bv Stan Lay at a meeting at New Plymouth last evening. He threw the 'javelin 209 ft 4in in perfect style. The weather conditions were calm. Application will be made to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Council for recognition of the record.

- wpll >ngton aDd Wanganui Clubs' jubilee athletic meeting last evening the gate takings totalled 4C225. In the mile cycle event, T. Oakley (Masterton) beut F. Grose. Oakley also won the three miles cycle race.

Miss N. Wilson won the 50yds invitation ladies handicap in 6 2-ss, only l-5s slower than the world's record. She also won the 100 yds ladies' scratch race in 11 2-ss. The Gisborne ladies' team retained the Etaveneaux Cup, beating Wellington and Wansanui by SOyclg.

R. W. Lander won the 120 yds hurdles from scratch in 16s, and also the -HOvds hurdles. Wellington beat Wanganui in the 440 yds relay.

In putting the shot, P. Munro, from scratch, did 42ft 9in.

PUKEKAWA SPORTS.

(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) TUAKAU, Saturday. The Pukekawa Sports Club's annual sports meeting was held to-day in Sir. K. D. Orr's grounds, Pukekawa. There was :i very good attendance, estimated at over 1000. The number of entries was in excess of last year's. In the running events, the Pukekawa Cup, of 150 yds, was the principal race. There were 14 competitors and, in a wellcontested final, S. .T. Revell won from F. Pickering, last year's winner.

In the mounted events the open hunters' competition was won by Martin Wright, of Patumahoe, on Dandy, with last year's winner, L. Cathcart, on Diamond, second. The cup for this event and the Pukekawa Cup were presented to the winners by Mr. W. Lee Martin. M.P., for the district.
