TALE OF A MISSING BAXK BOOK
Edward Russell Everett, a young man w ho had been committed from the Mag-].-tiates Court 011 charges of theft, for- ? cr .V an< l attempted uttering, apiteare'l lor sentence to-day before Mr. Justice Reed.
His Honor said lie understood it w?,; a case in which a lost bank book had been found by prisoner, who attempted to draw money on the account. Mr. Meredith: Hardly that, *ir Accused was a room-mate of the ov ner ot the bank book. The owner was confident that the book was safe in his pocket in the morning, but when he went out after breakfast it had gone. He stopped payment at the bank" It would be a truly remarkable coincidence said counsel, if he had lost the book and his room-mate had been the one to find it in the street.
Mr. Glaister pointed out that no money was obtained. Everett, he sai.' was an Australian, holding a certificate of honourable discharge from the arm v. He had an excellent character prior io this lapse. Accused was admitted to probation lor one year.
