The Public Works Department offs; no objection to the Kawarau dam closed to take advantage of the raally dry season, but it requires former safeguards to be renewed. most important of these is the inaniw* cover of £40.000 against the possb®7 of damage, due to the operation of ta dam. This security is said to i»ve o® allowed to lapse after the closing 0! tK dam had demonstrated that there no apparent risk of damage. if ihe dam is to be closed again security must be provided.
