CURRENCY GAMBLES.

Bankers Win Claim Against Woman. CIVIL SERVANTS INVOLVED. (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, February 1. A jury in the King's Bench Division gave a verdict in favour of Ironmonger and Co., bankers, of London, in a claim for £38,398 against Mrs. Amonta Bradley Dyne in respect of foreign currency transactions. The defendant pleaded the Gaming Act, contending that the transactions were merely gambles. There was evidence that in one period of three months she gained £24,000 on deals. Defendant during the war was secretary to Mr. W. D. Gregory, UnderSecretary of the Foreign Office, whose name was frequently mentioned in the case, including an allegation that he lost £9000 in transactions with Ironmonger's.

The Foreign Office has appointed a special Board of Inquiry into the statements made in the ease concerning Civil Servants. — (A. and N.Z. and Sydnev "Sun.")
