PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET.
BATTING AND BOWLING AVERAGES
JAMES AND DACRE HEAD LISTS.
With the conclusion of the AucklandWellington cricket match this week, the batting and bowling averages for the 1027-28 series of Plunket Shield matches are available. There are many interesting features in the lists, one, in particular, being the poor places occupied by players who have been looked upon as bowlers of some class. There have also been some notable failures in the batting department, though in the main the fijnires are exceedingly good. At the head of the batting average is K. C. James, who holds the further distinction of being the only batsman to score two centuries in this season's Shield matches. H. M. McGirr is credited with a fine all-round performance, and Dacre has also registered a fine double. Eleven centuries have been scored, the successful batsmen being: James (two), T. C. Lowry (highest individual score), C. C. Dacre, H. M. McGirr, J. McMullan. G. R. Dickson, W. Vorrath, E. H. Bowley, H. Foley, and J. Newman. Of the bowlers, Dacre is the only one to finish up with an average of under 20 runs per wicket. The averages are as follow:— BATTING.
