FIVE-DAY WEEK.
ROBBERS THE CAUSE
CHICAGO, January 27
The building industry has started the experiment of a five-day week, and the Plasterers' Union has signed a contract for a three months' trial of it between employers and lathers, adopting a 10hour, instead of a 44-hour. week. Beside the general economic proposition, robbers played a part in the decision. Twelve large building and contracting firms have had their payrolls robbed within six months, and they wished to change their methods, so as to pav by cheque. The unions demand currency, and a compromise provides that the cheque shall be issued on inday night, which the worker can cash during his Saturday holiday.
