ALL-DAY GAMES.

DEFEAT OF EDEN TEAM,

THREE CENTURIES MADE

The feature of the all-day matches yesterday was the defeat of Eden by Parnell, this being the first loss of the season by the Eden side. Absence of four of the regular Eden team, including three of the leading bowlers, as well as the best two batsmen, detracts somewhat from the value of the win, though Parnell was also without its best all-rounder in Anthony. It was a lowscoring game in which keenness on the part of Parnell kept the Eden batsmen pegged down, and the side was out for 135. In turn Eden had the Parnell batsmen making heavy weather of the rungetting, and it was S. Hayj a young who tided Parnell over a very diflicult period after the older of the early batsmen had failed. With six wickets down for 102 runs, the Parnell "tail" was called on to sava the game, and Stehr and Singleton carried the score to 130, after which Stehr and Aitken carried on successfully to give their side a win by 30 runs.

The game was equally close and exciting at Devonport, where North Shore defeated University by the narrow margin of 10 runs.

Ponsonby scored a four-point win over Y.M.C.A., who were dismissed for scores of 153 and 67, while Ponsonby put on 296 for four (declared), Langridge making 124 and F. S. Taylor 105.

Uunited Suburbs had an easy first innings' win over Grafton, who went down in the first innings for 107, but recovered in the second innings to put on 222 and baulk the Suburban players, who made 260 for five (declared) of the outright win. A. Bushill played a good innings of 120 for Suburbs.

NORTH SHORE V. UNIVERSITY.

North Shore finished up the first innings 10 runs ahead of University, a margin _ sufficiently large to give them the -win. University's first innings realised 186, Schnauer (36) and Smeeton (35) being top scorers. In their second innings Shore scored 180 for the loss of four wickets. Monteith hit up a sparkling 99 before he was run out. Scores:— NORTH SHORE. First Innings ... ...... 196 Second Innings. L. T. ,T. Monteith, run out 99 J. P. Gerrard, c Garrard, b Smeeton .. 1 Ij. PARNELL V. EDEN.

\ margin of thirty runs on the first innings gave Parnell the win against Jiden in the all-day match on No 1 wicket at Eden Park yesterday. Half way through Parnell's innings it looked as if Eden would finish up ahead, but good batting by Stebr and Aitken turned the issue the other way. P? 8 bowled excellently, securing six wickets for 44. Scores: — EDEN. First Innings ...••••••••• Second Innings. J. Fraser, b Goodsir 1 A. Gillespie, b Goodsir . . 20 G. PONSONBY V. Y.M.C.A.

Y.M.C.A. failed to give Ponsonby a run for their money, being dismissed in the first innings for 153, and in the second for the very poor total of 67. Ponsonby were not seriously troubled by the Young Men's attack, scoring 296 for the loss of four wickets (declared). Langridgo (124) and Taylor (105 not out), both scored centuries. The game resulted in a four point win to Ponsonby. Scores:— Y.M.C.A. Fist Innings 153 Second Innings. L. Elliott, lbw, b Smith 12 R. Riddolls, c and b Roy 10 P. Poepipel, c McLeod, b Smith 4 T. SHORE COLTS V. PAPATOETOE. Papatoetoe, winning the toss, electcd to bat, which was fortunate for the Colts, who were short of two of their best batsmen. The concrete wicket gave little assistance to the bowlers and, the outfield being dry and devoid of grass, everything pointed to big scoring. In fact, had it not been for some brilliant fielding by Woolley, who threw down two wickets, and H. Smith, who caught three men, the Colts would still be in the field. Two of Smith's catches were excellent. Not one man w r as bowled. Leighton (61) got top score with correct and careful cricket. P. Swaffield (54) played soundly and was unlucky in getting run out. B. Burnside (40) fell a victim to one of Smith's catches after a very useful innings. Dr. Valentine (19) and Winks (23, not out) were the other principal scorers. The innings closed at 262, leaving the Colta a difficult proposition, but one not beyond them. Long and Bankin opened for Shore, but Long was dismissed early for 4. Bankin was caught after contributing 28, mostly boundaries. Cowie (29, not out) and L. Smith (8, not out) were still at the wickets at close of time. The Colts have two wickets down for 72, and next week should provide some interesting cricket. Bowling honours for Shore were with Smith (four for 44) and Jay (two for 45). NORTH SHORE A V. PARNELL.
