PLUCKY GISBORNE MAN.
MONSTER ENTICED INSHORE
GISBORNE, Monday.
A shark 12ft long and over 4001b in weight was harpooned by Mr. C. Ferris at Wainui Beach yesterday. Mr. Ferris waded into' the surf and attracted the shark by throwing strips of stingaree into the water. The shark swam closer and closer, snapping at the bait, until it was within reach, when, with a single stroke at lightning speed, Mr. Ferris thrust the .harpoon deep into its side. It lashed the water into foam, but was soon drawn ashore and killed. Visitors were amazed-by the harpooner's courage and' speed.
