For Boy Scouts

Tiic St. George's (Kingsland) Troop held their annual camp at Henderson Valley from December 2S to January ti. Twenty-six boys were in camp under the charge of Rev. K. J. McFarland. The site was idea], and, although it was the first camp of practically all the boys, they settled down to camp life very quickly and not even the rain at the beginning was able to quench their enthusiasm. During the camp they were joined hy some Scouts from llobsonville, under Scoutmaster Shaw. One of the swimming pools near the camp was sufficiently large to enable swimming sports to be held and a programme of races and diving events was successfully carried through. The competition for the best patrol in camp was won by the Kangaroos, under Patrol Leader D. Jobez. The Avonuale troop their anuual camp at Onetangi, Waihek'e Island. There were six 12 x 10 bungalow tents all centred around the llag-staJT, and altogether there were approximately forty Scouts in camp. After work was done the boys spent much of their time in fishing, surf-bathing and exploring the neighbouring district. There was practically no sickness and the troop were fortunate in having a fresh-water creek flowing through the grounds. As the camp was situated oil high ground a very fine view of the surrounding district was obtained and especially of the Hauraki Gulf. During the first week a party of Scouts collected a line swag of mussels, and New Year's Eve was celebrated in no silent manner. Another important incident which nearly ended in a tragedy, was when somebody made toffee, but details are not necessary beyond the fact that the A.S.M. had considerable difliculty in freeing his two jaws, but after a two hour's fight eventually succeeded.
