SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Amongst the bridge parties given yesterday was one by Mrs. P. A. Mrs. Watkin, of Epsom, gave a smart bridge party last evening in honour of Mrs. F. Spencer, of Sydney. The housp was decorated in tones of mauve and pink. Mrs. W. Sampson, of "Rawene Birkenhead, entertained a number of guests in honour of Miss Phyllis Hayson, who is leaving by the Aorangi for a holiday in Sydney. To receive the guests Mrs. Sampson wore a gown of powder blue and gold crepe de chine. The hostess was assisted by her daughter, Mis 6 Zelma Sampson, who wore shell pink georgete and silver; Miss P. II ay son's frock was of duchess pink taffeta and tulle; Mrs. C'. Sampson, wore delphinium blue crepe de chine; Mrs. Deriekson, ilesh crepe de chine and Oriental trimmings; Mrs. F. A social evening and grocery tea was given on Thursday by Miss Lilian Badley, at licr homo, Princes Street, in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Myra Buchanan. The decorations were done in blue hydrangeas and golden calceolarias. The hostess was tastefully gowned in silver grey georgette, and Mrs. Badley wore black and beige georgette. Miss M. The prizes for the competitions were won by Miss E. Gash and Miss M. Buchanan.

On Friday evening the members of the Papakura Girls' Huia Club gave a gift evening for Miss Myrtle Henwood, who is shortly to be married, the function being held in the Parisli Hall, and was a very enjoyable evening. During the evening a spot waltz was won by Miss Kathleen Brooks and partner, and a competition by Mr. D. Jamieson, and Miss Joan Hollis, Miss Ivy Turner, on behalf of all present, asked Miss Henwood to accept the gifts. slusic.il and vocal items were rendered by Mrs. O'Connell (president of Huia Club), Mr. Len Kernot and Miss E. Turner. Dancing continued until 12.30. Amongst those present were: Mrs. G. W. O'Connell, fuchsia crepe de chine; Mrs. F. Scott, black silk; Miss Myrtle Henwood, black satin; Miss M.
