DANGEROUS CHINESE.

) ASSAULT WITH A KNIFE. I IMPRISONMENT ORDERED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) x TAIHAPE, Wednesday. Wong Gam Lee, a young man, v.as - sentenced to-day to two months' im- '' prisonment for assaulting Low Ching, a !'• laundryman and fruiterer, at Taihape. ;, Accused pleaded that there was someI; thing wrong with his head. 5 Sergeant O'Neill said that Wong went to a shop in Taihape and attacked Low Ching with a knife and hoop. He evidently intended to throw the hoop over Ching's head and draw him on to the > knife- Fortunately he failed, and as ' Low was running away Wong threw the knife and hoop at him. The sergeant said the other Chinese in Taihape were afraid of accused, and had written the police a note suggesting . that he should be sent to Porirua. as they considered he was mentally deficient and might kill somebody. There was no doubt Wong Lee was a dangerous man. He had served a term of three months' imprisonment for forgery. If he were found to be mentally deficient " the prison authorities would take suitable action. On being sentenced, accused said he would probably attack Low again when he came out. Low appeared alarmed, but was told ' by the police that he had nothing to fear.
