A LABOUR WAR.

Colorado is once more the scene of a Labour war. It is hardly possible, with the information sojfar available, to estimate fairly the merits of the quarrel. But it is vastly improbable that either party to the dispute is prepared to take a reasonable view of the other side of the case. The great "Colorado Labour War" of twenty years ago was undoubtedly due to a large extent to the arbitrary and unscrupulous tactics of the mine-owners, assisted by the great railway companies. But it provided the founders of the LW.W. with an opportunity for playing an active part in a fierce industrial struggle, and they have never since lost their hold upon this great industrial area. In Colorado there has grown up in the mining industry a tradition of tyranny on the one side and reckless violence on the other which, quite apart from the particular questions now involved, may well account for the dangerous character of the present industrial conflict; and the situation needs to be handled with the greatest care and tact by the Federal authorities if serious trouble is not to ensue.
