THE NEMESIS OF TYRANNY.
It is reported that a great plot against Mussolini has been discovered, and large numbers of conspirators have already been condemned to punishment. The most obvious 1 comment upon this is that it is precisely what might be expected under the circumstances. Despotism, involving the suppression of political and social liberty, always must and will produce conspiracies for the overthrow of the tyrant. But it should be added that,- as most of the news from Italy is carefully censored, we are justified in regarding all such reports with grave suspicion. It is notorious that several "plots" discovered or revealed by the FascistSs have been the work of Mussolini's agents, who have devised these expedients to provide the Duce with a plausible pretext for punishing or exiling his more dangerous opponents, and there is no present proof that the "conspiracy" now announced has not originated from a similar source.
