While unemployment ■was acute in Wanganui in June last, a Wanganul ox pert shearer, who had shorn in New South Wales in the previous season, col* lected eight of his mates and went across the Tasman again. They have now returned, reporting a most successful run. Some of them shore as many as 10.000 sheep. They report that the drought has been very distressing in the back country. They saw thousands of acres of grain not worth reaping. Emus and kangaroos were very poor in condition, and hunting "old man" kangaroos was no sport at all. as the animals showed no energy or fight.
