A RUN TO WANGANUI AND BACK
ROADS REPORTED VERY GOOD.
A well-known business man had a call to Wanganul last Friday, and decided to go by car. He returned last night, and states that the roads are good except for a portion between Te Awamutu and Te Kuiti, while Huntly is still rough. It is often stated that the small-powered British car is not suitable for our roads. The car in question was an ordinary Morris Cowley, carrying five passengers and all their luggage. For the 700 miles the fuel consumption was 24 gallons, an average of just under 30 miles per gallon. The trip from Auckland to Te Kuiti was done in 4} hours, and an average of 25 miles was maintained for the whole trip. Tre best speed was 52 miles attained on portions of the good roads in the Taranaki district.
