BEAM AND CABLE.

DOMINIONS' CONCERN

Question Of Competition In Empire Communication.

RADIO APFECTS BUSINESS.

(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.l

(Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, November 20. There have been further abortive discussions among the partner-Gov-ernments regarding the appointment of chairman of the Pacific Cable Board.

Apparently they consider the expense involved in the appointment inopportune until the respective functions of beam wireless and cables are more clearly defined.

The aggregate traffic between Britain and Australia and New Zealand has increased, but beam competition has affected the board's revenue and is likely to continue to attract the class of traffic demanding speed and cheapness, though cables are more secret and accurate.

It is impossible at present to determine whether the beam will be permanently competitive or complementary to cables.
