The military annals of the United States show that beginning with 1860 and ending with the World War of 1917-18, the United States army has participated in fifty wars. The Rev. Andrew Knox, a missionary in Alaska, returning from a trip into the interior, found that his dogs had exhausted their food Bupply of dried fish and had eaten the walls of his church, which were made of walrus and reindeer hides.
