WIN FOR HANDICAPPERS.
When the handicaps for the Auckland spring meeting and the present Otahuhn meeting were declared there waß a wail from the parties connected with Florent, and they were loud in their opinions that the horse had been hopelessly handicapped out of the races- The horse, they said, and would have the public believe, had no more chance of winning than flying, but despite this tfcey were prepared to accept for the Onehunga Handicap, which figured on the Otahuhu programme on Saturday. The result was a complete victory for Mr. Goosman, who handicapped Florent for, and also for Mr. Paul, who handicapped him for the Auckland meeting. So far from being handicapped out of the race, Florent waited upon the field till well into the straight, when he strolled along and beat Amaris in a good finish by a head. As Amaris came out afterwards and made •an exhibition of Nelson Tasker, Dick Dillon, Nelson Fame, and Lord Nepean among the others, it made Florent's performance pretty good, l'he position on Saturday was that Florent won—but so did the handicappers.
